Opening Remarks

Imad Najm, Yuichi Kubota

8:00- 9:00

Introductory Session: What is SEEG?

SEEG as a method
The concepts behind, and the logical chain of its practice.

Modulator: Riki Matumoto

Speaker: Patrick Chauvel

9:30-11:00

Session 1: What Are the Indications of SEEG ?

Beyond the traditional prerequisites for drug-resistant presurgical investigation, what are the specific questions that SEEG can address? What are the advantages of a 3D evaluation (SEEG) over a 2D evaluation (Subdural grids)? What are the indications of SEEG in MRI-positive and MRI-negative cases? SEEG indications in children.

Modulator: Kazutaka Jin

Didactic Lecture (45 min.)Speaker: Imad Najm 【UCB Japan Co., Ltd. /Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.】

Case Presentation (15 min.)Speaker: Imad Najm

Round Table Discussion (30 min.)Discussants: Imad Najm, Yuichi Kubota

11:00-12:00

Session 3: How to Plan SEEG Implantation?

To outline the importance of semiological, EEG, imaging, and functional data in the process of hypothesis generation and to identify the anatomical networks for the SEEG exploration.

How to reach the three objectives of electrodes implantation ((i) to localize the seizure onset zone, (ii) to understand the EZ/propagation network organization, (iii) to delineate the boundaries of cortectomy. How the implantation technique meets the anatomo-electro-clinical expectations.

Modulator: Masaki Iwasaki

Session 4: How to Interpret SEEG Recordings? 【Eisai Co., Ltd.】

Discuss the concept of “epileptogenic” zone in SEEG.

Outline the various SEEG parameters that will help in the SEEG interpretation:

Significance of interictal spiking

Analysis of ictal onset: focal onset versus network involvement

The significance of direct electrical stimulation and connectivity mapping (Cortico-cortical evoked potentials.

Modulator: Rei Enatsu

The SEEG-Based Surgical Strategy.

How to convert “zones” into anatomical areas that need to resected/ablated.

How to address functional constraints within the “sampling bias” of SEEG (The paradigm of the missing electrode).

How to translate this information into a resective surgical hypothesis?
